Phone and Phones everywhere, Which to Get?

So I've been searching the web for a new toy recently. No, not something that I would just play with and forget about in two months, but something that I could actually use. I was searching for a new cell phone. Granted, my phone is only a few months old, I'm still eligible for a new device at a discounted price. Couple this with the fact that I'm no longer out of contract, and you have quite the prudent shopper. As the landscape of the mobile services market shifts from focusing on coverage to focusing on device, I find myself in a bit of a bind. I don't think I'll ever want to leave my current provider, but then again, that's how they want me. Yes I get a generous discount with their competitor, but yet that isn't enough to leave them. The last choice is a carrier that has been besieged with issues and has hemorrhaged customers at a steady pace over the past few years. It does, however; have potential to change their name around.

But like I said, my issue is mainly with what can phone can I get and how much will I have to pay for it? Forget the Vertue, the iPhone remains as the premier device for mobilphiles who seek style, sophistication, and that high place of status. But I'm not caught up on the iPhone. Don't get me wrong, if someone was to hand me one I would not complain, I'm just looking for something else. I like the idea of the touchscreen, but I guess in my "old" age I'm afraid of it. I am a veteran Blackberry user. Granted they've made improvements to they're system, they've done so at a sluggish pace. Look how long it took for the RIM device to gain public fame compared to it's contemporaries. I remember when they were just plastic blocks that had weird icons. Not much has changed really.

The Nexus One seems like a great choice for someone who was trying to be anti mainstream, but with all its glamor and publicity, it still is out shined buy the Apple device. The Droid is great except for the fact that it's made by motorola and looks like a pocket organizer from the 90's.

Keep in mind, I tell this tale of indecision well aware that I don't plan on switching devices anytime soon. With it being the beginning of the 2nd quarter I know that there are more phones that will be released later that will knock these devices out of the water.
